Moray Poverty Conference
Moray Foodbank have been awarded funding to run the Moray Poverty Conference. The conference will be a free event and open to the public, it is intended that there will be a variety of speakers covering different aspects of poverty and Lindsay Graham, an expert on child poverty, has already agreed to speak. We will also have workshops, market stalls and networking opportunities to maximise the impact of the event.
Moray is often thought of as an affluent area and does not feature highly on SIMD (Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation) data, however, in rural areas deprivation is dispersed, tending to affect individual households rather than communities and as a result, tends to be hidden. We would like this conference to raise awareness of the issue in Moray and begin discussions into a co-ordinated, partnership approach supporting disadvantaged communities. We are aware of other pieces of work taking place across Moray and would like to have an event which brings everything together to provide a clearer overview of both the issues and the work being done to address it.
