Turning waste into wearables

The Going Nova team have spent the past weeks encouraging people to make the most of life in lockdown – by getting creative and turning their waste into wearables.

Going Nova have had to find a new method of delivering their series of upcycling workshops, as a result the COVID-19 pandemic. Not to be deterred by the ongoing social restrictions, the activities are instead being delivered as online classes using the charity's Facebook and YouTube channels.

The series of events are funded by Moray LEADER, as part of their Creative Opportunities from Waste project. The workshops are designed to demonstrate techniques of upcycling – creatively turning waste clothing and discarded fabric into items of beauty and value, and particularly upcycling discarded fabric into fashionable items of clothing.

Participants learn how to turn waste material into fashionable accessories – techniques for using pre-loved T-shirts, milk containers, plastic bottles and bubble wrap, and producing something stylish.

In the first workshop, it is possible to learn how to transform pre-loved T-shirts into newly-loved bracelets.
